What are the symptoms and consequences of cross-bite? 

 

A cross bite not just a bite problem - serious aesthetic and health have consequences. The first aesthetic signs may include: tooth distortion, distortion of the dental arch and changes in the direction of facial growth. It may develop the so-called adenoid face character: elongated facial shape, narrow upper dental arch, lower jaw set back, open mouth, circular eyes, chronic mouth breathing.

On the health side: congested teeth are harder to clean, so they develop more often tartar, gingivitis and caries. In the case of dry mouth, the teeth dry out and the gums become inflamed more easily.

A chronic mouth breathing in the long term, it can alter facial and cranial development, impair sleep quality, weaken concentration and even cause ADHD symptoms in children, as well as reducing oxygen levels in the blood - which can lead to high blood pressure, heart problems and sleep apnoea.

This is why prevention and complex treatment approach where we not only treat the symptoms, but also identify the root causes and support our orthodontic treatments with various functional therapies.
