For a general dental examination and the preparation of an accurate orthodontic treatment plan lateral teleradiography is essential.
Records that are essential for an accurate orthodontic treatment plan
Before starting orthodontic treatment, we usually take two types of X-rays in the studio, on site.
One is the panoramic X-ray, which shows more (cavities, inflammation, etc.), but for orthodontic purposes it is important to be able to deduce the facial symmetry from this type of X-ray.
The other is the lateral teleradiograph, which is taken specifically before orthodontic treatment.
What is a lateral teleradiograph?
After the examination during the personal consultation, we will prepare a lateral teleradiograph. This is a scan that is needed to make absolutely sure that the bite disorder is caused by an incorrect relationship of the teeth or the wrong position of the jawbones. This allows an accurate orthodontic treatment plan to be drawn up.
A lateral teleradiograph shows the entire face from the forehead to the cervical vertebrae.
The prefix tele- indicates that the X-ray beam is coming from a great distance to the "film".
There is no pain in making the recording. At the forehead and the ear canal, the skull is supported in the correct position using various instruments. After the precise adjustment, the lateral teleradiograph is taken in a few seconds. During this short time, the patient has to stand still.
Lateral digital teleradiography
To prepare an orthodontic treatment plan In our studio we produce digital X-rays, which are significantly smaller with radiation exposure which is a priority for children.
Last but not least, digital X-rays are a much more environmentally friendly technology.
Very important for us protecting our environment, including during the operation of the practice.
