These are special orthodontic elastics that connect the upper and lower dentition.
Why do I need braces?
Although they are not well known in the public consciousness, without them it is not possible
a bite adjustment. As virtually all patients have some kind of bite discrepancy, we usually use these orthodontic elastics for all treatments.
Can invisible braces avoid orthodontic gum disease?
No, even with invisible braces may be necessary the use of elastic, orthodontic rubber.
Do you have to wear your braces all day?
It is extremely important to wear orthodontic elastics all the time to achieve perfect treatment results!
22-24 hours a day (i.e. continuous) wear, the teeth move 4 mm in 4 months, 2 mm in 4 months if worn 20-22 hours a day, and 1 mm in 4 months if worn 18-20 hours a day! So practically, after 18 hours of wear, it is as if they were not in the mouth at all.
The orthodontic gum or gums are fitted by the patient, who must wear them continuously day and night, and can only be removed at mealtimes and replaced after eating and brushing.
Does braces prevent you from speaking?
A orthodontic elastics speech is not impeded.
For the comfort of our patients, we start with very soft, fine-strength orthodontic elastics in a given area, and later on we use slightly stronger orthodontic elastics, but the principle of soft-strength orthodontics (passive self-ligating system) is also applied here.
